Missunderstood, born LaStashia Lewis on April 10th, 1986, took a liking to music at a very young age. As she kept listening to music and beginning to create her own songs, Missunderstood knew that a career in the music industry was something that she wanted to pursue and would not stop until she made her dream a reality. She began singing at the age of 6 and made a name for herself through talent shows, her school's youth choir, church mass choir as well as the all state choir throughout school. Although she had the beautiful raspy stop you in your tracks vocals, her steamy temper landed her in prison in 2005. To some it would have been deemed devastating, but to her she knew it was exactly what she needed to stimulate her change. Since her release in 2010 she has gained mentorship by a Def Jam Record label executive and her musical venture has taken off in a major way, making her one of Virginia's most well known unsigned artist. She is extremely versatile with her craft, having the ability to write her own r&b songs, poetry as well as rapping also. Missunderstood states that her number one dream is to make music that people will remember and she prides herself on being able to do plenty different things extremely well when it comes to her music. She released her first mixtape, entitled “Missunderstood, THIS IS ME” through mixtape giant datpiff.com, and the response to the tape was extremely positive and had terrific reviews. The success of her debut mixtape enabled her to perform at Norfolk, VA's NORVA, one of the top ten venues in the United States as well as a local spot named SHAKAS on Virginia Beach's famous Oceanfront. She also loves to work with other artists/producers & songwriters, collaborating with over 25 different artists from her home state of Virginia all the way to New York which will certainly keep her name buzzing. She currently has 4 singles playing on one of Virginia's top radio stations, 103 Jamz which include “He Say She Say” feat. Yung Juan, “I Love My City” feat. PrinceOfDaCity & Boss, “Hear Them Talking” & “I Love My City Remix”. Missunderstood also states that she is currently hard at work on her next mixtape, “Missunderstood, Awaken FAITH” and credits her manager, Justin Lewis as being an essential part of her success. Not only is Missunderstood an amazing artist, but she is also a community activist who, aside from doing hair in her spare time, listening to music and pursuing her bachelor's degree in business management from the University Of Phoenix, she loves to speak to at-risk youth and motivate them to strive for greatness in life. With a knack for making incredible music and also making a difference in her community, Missunderstood's star is surely going to continue to rise.
